Erosion is the loss of the earth’s top surface to forces such as water and wind, resulting in a notable run of essential land components vital for sustainable agricultural practices. Erosion is usually caused by natural forces (primarily water, wind, and wildfire) but can be intensified by various human activities. The natural forces that can impact and intensify erosion might include vegetation, climate, topography, and tectonic activities. In contrast, human activities that can impact erosion include intense agriculture, deforestation, construction, mining, overgrazing, animal tramping, etc. 

Soil erosion poses a significant threat to people and their environment, particularly in aspects relating to land use, including agriculture and horticulture. Besides limiting the socio-economic development in the affected area, it also causes major disruptions in the soil ecosystem and nutrient makeup, leading to economic loss, low-yield agricultural produce, and limited land use. Since agricultural development is reliant on nutrient-rich soils, erosion stunts the development of agriculture by washing away essential nutrients required for agriculture to thrive. This action leads to extra costs such as soil replenishment, excessive demand for fertilizers, re-planting multiple times, and the creation of drainage control systems. Consequently, Agriculturists are faced with the challenge of higher costs, lower yield, limited land use, and reduced sustainability, especially when addressing erosion with traditional techniques.
